Selling used vinyl to Rough Trade

Sell used vinyl to Rough Trade with clear next steps.

Rough Trade buys selected used vinyl collections and helps pre-loved records find a new home. You can tell us what you have, wait for our Used Vinyl team to review it, and choose how you would prefer to be paid if we make an offer.

Who this applies to

This article is for customers who want to sell used vinyl records to Rough Trade.

It may be helpful if you:

  • have a vinyl collection you no longer play

  • have inherited records and want to know whether Rough Trade may be interested

  • want to sell a larger collection rather than list records individually

  • have filled in the sell-your-vinyl form and are waiting for a reply

How selling your vinyl works

  1. Go to the Rough Trade Vintage page and choose Sell Used Vinyl or Sell Yours Now.

  2. Fill in the short form with details about your records.

  3. Tell us what you have, where the records are, and how you would prefer to receive payment.

  4. Wait for the Used Vinyl team to review your submission.

  5. If we are interested, we will contact you about the next steps.

  6. Once the records have been received and checked, payment is arranged.

We may offer cash or Rough Trade credit. Rough Trade credit is usually offered at a higher value than cash and can be used in-store or online.

What to include in your submission

To help the Used Vinyl team review your collection, include as much useful detail as you can.

Where possible, provide:

  • the approximate number of records

  • whether you are selling a whole collection or selected titles

  • a list of artists and titles

  • formats, such as LPs, 12"s, or 7"s

  • any catalogue numbers, pressing details, limited editions, or signed copies

  • the general condition of the records and sleeves

  • clear photos of a sample of the collection

  • your location

  • whether you would prefer collection, shipping, or store drop-off if available

Condition, rarity, pressing details, completeness, and demand can all affect value. Records in better condition, rare pressings, limited editions, and signed copies may be worth more.

Collections, small batches, and individual records

Rough Trade is most likely to be interested in full collections or larger groups of records.

For US submissions, the current Rough Trade Vintage FAQ says Rough Trade is mainly buying entire collections, starting at around 50 units. Smaller in-store buys may be considered case by case after approval through the form.

For collections outside the US, the US FAQ says Rough Trade will only consider collections of more than 5,000 units.

For UK submissions, the UK Rough Trade Vintage page asks customers to use the sell-your-vinyl form so the team can review the collection. If you only have a small number of records, you can still submit the details, but an offer is not guaranteed.

Collection, shipping, insurance, and drop-off

If Rough Trade is interested in your collection, the team will explain the next steps.

Depending on your location and the collection, this may include:

  • arranging a collection

  • asking you to ship the records

  • arranging drop-off at a Rough Trade store, where available

For US submissions, the Rough Trade Vintage FAQ says USPS Media Mail may be used after a deal has been agreed, with postage labels emailed once the records are packaged and ready for shipping. It also says customers may be able to drop a collection into a Rough Trade store, where staff can take care of postage and packaging.

Please wait for confirmation from the Used Vinyl team before sending records to Rough Trade. This helps make sure your collection is expected, handled correctly, and covered by the agreed process.

When and how payment is made

If Rough Trade makes an offer and you accept it, payment is arranged once the records have arrived and been checked.

Payment options may include:

  • cash

  • Rough Trade credit

Rough Trade credit is usually offered at a higher value than cash. The US Rough Trade Vintage FAQ currently says Rough Trade may pay up to 25% more when customers choose Rough Trade credit.

If you have not heard back

The Used Vinyl team reviews submissions before confirming whether Rough Trade is interested. Response times may vary depending on the number of submissions being reviewed.
